Tourists traveling to Venezuela will be well-advised to keep an eye on the time, following the president's decision to put the clocks back half an hour.
In a move designed to improve early performance in the country by increasing the amount of daylight hours, Hugo Chavez's move puts the South American county four and a half hours behind Greenwich Mean Time - permanently.
However odd the move may seem, the president is sticking to his guns.
"I don't care if they call me crazy, the new time will go ahead," he explained.
"These children have to get up at five in the morning... they arrive at school dead tired. And why? Because of our time," he added in justification.
However, the move is not likely to be to everyone's liking. For those travelers with a plane to catch, or backpackers making transitional connecting flights, these changes will no doubt complicate matters further.
