Travelers could see trips to Australia get more complicated under plans to extend one of Sydney airports runways.
The runway is set to be extended a further 90 meters in order to meet Civil Aviation Authority (CASA) and international aviation standards requirements.
It is expected that tourists will suffer a greater number of redirected flights and an increase in airplane noise.
In addition, all take-off and landings will now take place on the existing north-south runways, with one to three flight movements per hour expected.
Chief executive of Sydney Airport, Russell Balding, said: "This is a safety issue which we must comply with."
"As soon as the construction is complete then normal airport operations and noise sharing arrangements will resume," he added.
The $65 million (£32 million) safety extension follows the planned expansion and upgrade of the International Terminal at the airport, on which work began last month.
