Rioting has broken out in parts of Venezuela, sparking fears that traveling to the country's capital Caracas could pose risks to tourists.
Students in the city have been protesting against proposed changes to the constitution of Venezuela and a number of scuffles are reported to have broken out between police and the protestors.
The Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has claimed that the proposed changes to the country's constitution are a necessary part of a transition to socialism and the plans are to be put to a national referendum before being implemented, the BBC reports.
However, a number of groups are concerned that their views on the various issues are not being heard and charge that the dispersal of their protests by police is evidence of "political discrimination".
More than 13,000 British tourists make their way into Venezuela each year and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has urged people to take out comprehensive medical and travel insurance before entering the country.
