SS Bajwa, deputy mayor of New Delhi in India, has died after being attacked by wild monkeys.
This news will come as a stark reminder to tourists traveling to New Delhi, where the wild monkeys run rife across the city's streets and in buildings.
Rhesus macaques monkeys are renowned for hanging around tourist areas, where there is a greater chance of them getting fed.
The ferocity and potential for injury of these monkeys receives testament in this attack on Mr Bajwa, who died from head injuries sustained in the fall from his balcony.
The proliferation of monkeys across the city is made worse because inhabitants often feed them, but also revere them as a manifestation of Hindu god Hanuman and so reject measures that would harm the monkeys.
One such measure has been to train larger Langur monkeys to attack and scare away the smaller Rhesus macaques, a scheme that was trialed at a Delhi metro station for a month in August.
According to the BBC, corporate buildings are now hiring the larger Langurs to keep the monkeys out of offices.
