The Fiji Islands have suffered a decline in tourist visitors as travel restrictions remain in place.
Both New Zealand and Australia have recommended tourist don't travel to the exotic islands until democratic elections are resumed.
Subsequently, New Zealanders visiting Fiji have declined by 20 per cent and Australians by six per cent since the military led coup on December 5th 2006.
However, the Fiji Island Visitors Board (FIVB) remains optimistic, requesting an increase of $20.8 million (£6.5 million) for 2008 to produce new tourism campaigns.
Patrick Wong, Chairman of FIVB, said: "Tourism industries of Pacific Islands countries are reaping the benefits because tourists from here [Fiji] are now diverting to these island countries."
He added that the FIVB will be "targeting new segments and countries" with its campaigns.
Fiji shouldn't have a problem attracting tourists to its 330 island paradise, offering cheap accommodation and some very exotic and untouched areas popular for eco-tourism.
Leaders in Fiji remain confident that democracy will resume in 2009.
