New York might still be the most popular destination for grabbing the best Christmas goodies, but more people are going to Europe to do their shopping than ever before.
According a spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), New York remains top in virtue of the high level of media advertising it receives as a seasonal shopping destination.
However, the organisation claims that countries such as Germany and Eastern Europe are becoming increasingly popular among travelers.
ABTA explains that tourists are often attracted to places in Europe because the destination offers a "cultural experience" as well as a shopping experience, adding that Christmas tends to be celebrated in a very "traditional" way by comparison to New York.
But would-be travelers are also offered a word of warning, with airports expected to get very busy around November as well as the usual December Christmas period.
ABTA has stated that New York has been particularly popular this year, "because the pound has hit the magic two dollar barrier".
Despite this, travelers could be encouraged by cheaper flights and the possibility of a white Christmas in neighboring EU states.
