British Airways has announced it is increasing its number of flights from Heathrow to three major US destinations as of March 30th 2008.
The expansion follows the EU-US Open Skies treaty which comes into effect that month and is geared towards liberalising transatlantic travel.
The number of Heathrow to JFK flights will go up from 51 to 55 per week, Seattle from 10 to 13 and Washington from 21 to 24.
The airline's Heathrow to Detroit route, however, has been cancelled, while its daily service to Dallas Fort Worth along with its double daily service to Houston have both been moved from Gatwick to Heathrow.
Flights to Algiers are also being moved from Gatwick to Heathrow as the carrier is looking "to ensure that the airline's oil and gas destinations in North Africa and the US are still linked through the same airport".
BA also announced today that it has cancelled its direct service to Zimbabwe's capital Harare, though it stressed the move was for commercial and not political reasons.
Passengers will now be routed to Johannesburg before flying on to the Zimbabwean capital via BA's franchise partner Comair.
