As the nation's economy continues to grow at a stunning rate, builders have finally completed the tallest building in China.
At a towering 1,614-feet tall, the 101-storey Shanghai World Financial Center has been in development for over a decade.
The Asian financial crisis halted its production in the late 90s, while a redesign after the 9/11 terrorist attacks - the tower was strengthened with four huge pillars - also delayed its unveiling.
But, after a fire last month was extinguished, the project has now been finished.
Minoru Mori, head of the design team, told reporters: "When I saw the building this morning, at its full height, I thought it's really beautiful. I think we've really succeeded."
Though Mori is Japanese, he denies that political tensions had hampered the $1 billion scheme.
"We were never bullied because we were Japanese," he said. "This is everyone's landmark which belongs to the Shanghainese and will be the pride of Shanghai."
Rents will be set at around $3 per square foot.
