Safe drivers in the Fribourg region of western Switzerland have been rewarded with a mouth-watering prize.
As part of a 24-hour 'thank you' to motorists obeying the law, Fribourg traffic police handed out Swiss chocolate to those who passed a series of roadside checks.
After a number of road traffic accidents in the region, local traffic cops instigated a six-month safety campaign, carrying out some 3,500 roadside checks.
While 830 drivers were charged with offences relating to speeding, drunk driving or incorrect documentation, those who emerged with a clean record received a chocolate reward.
Fribourg police handed out full penalties to motorists driving without a licence, insurance or tax, while those who satisfied all the safety checks were given the 100g treat, embossed with the force's coat of arms.
Though the sugary rewards were only offered for 24 hours, police in the Fribourg canton have stressed that punishments for drivers living outside the law will remain as harsh as ever.
