Northern Tanzania has been hit by an earthquake so strong that its aftershocks were felt over 150 kilometers away.
The quake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, hit about 100 kilometres north of the town of Arusha.
The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha was evacuated, while the quake was powerful enough to cause high-rise buildings in Nairobi, the capital of neighboring Kenya and 155 kilometres away from the quake site, to shake and sway.
Don Blakeman, an earthquake analyst with the US Geological Survey, confirmed the power of the tremor.
"This is the seventh earthquake that is above 4.4 [since Thursday]," he said.
"This last one is pretty large, I would expect some more in the coming days, weeks, months but we cannot predict when."
No immediate casualties have been reported.
Nairobi has since been put on red alert for an imminent earthquake, as tremors intensify.
