A South Korean tourist has filed a risky claim with his travel insurance company, after a mishap in Varanasi, northern India.
Kim Dang Hoon had opened his hotel room window when a wild monkey entered uninvited and reportedly stole his reading glasses.
In a statement to his insurance provider, he wrote: "I had opened my window last morning to get fresh air and to take in the view of the Ganga. The scene was soothing.
"Suddenly, I saw a monkey sneak into my room. He headed straight to the table where my sunglasses were kept and took it away.
"I was completely outsmarted. I drew the attention of employees of the guesthouse. But they were of little help."
The monkey, one of thousands who are venerated in the holy city as manifestations of the god Hanuman, seems to have enjoyed the petty theft, judging by the rest of Mr Hoon's statement.
"I offered him food but he refused. He was dangling my glasses from his fingers," he wrote.
Local police officer Inspector Govind Singh said that the force were hard at work on the case.
"It is difficult to trace the monkey but I am trying my best to locate the rogue,' he commented.
"But we can't do anything," he added. "We cannot shoot them or beat them as Hindus worship monkeys."
