An eight-year-old girl in the Longjing region of China is probably the loneliest pupil in the world - she's the only student at her school.
Han Hongyang has become the last remaining pupil at her school in Dasu, as more and more of the village residents have emigrated away, reports City Evening Post.
Li Yongchung, the only teacher at the school, explained the school's diminutive size to the newspaper.
"At first, the school had more than 400 students," he said, "but in the '90s, more and more families migrated from the mountain village to make a living outside, and there were just over ten students left.
"In 2000, the city education bureau decided to shut down the school after the graduation of the last student. New kids can register and board at another school in nearby Sanhe town, which is a two-hour drive away."
However, Han's family could not afford to register her at another school so she has been the only student for over 18 months now.
Li added: "She is my only student, and I'm her only teacher."
Han takes lessons in Mathematics, Chinese, Korean, PE, History and Geography, as well as enjoying badminton and ping pong during breaks from class.
At 61 years old, Li has only six months until his retirement, at which point another tutor will be dispatched to teach Han until her graduation.
