
A cyclone hitting the south of Pakistan has caused at least 200 deaths and led to the evacuation of thousands of people along the country's Arabian Sea coast.
Cyclone Yemvin hit Balochistan province early on Tuesday morning, with heavy rain and winds of around 80 miles per hour.
Though the phenomenon is expected to slow and have a negligible effect on Karachi, most of the 120,000 residents of the port of Gwadar have been moved to higher ground.
Talking to the Associated Press, mayor Abdul Ghaffar Hoth said: "We have imposed an emergency in the district and asked the army and other forces to be on alert."
The Pakistani navy is searching for dozens of ships missing since the storms, while much of Karachi is still without power and water after the heavy rains which preceded the onset of the cyclone.
Part of the coastal highway in Balochistan was washed away during the storms, which are not expected to subside until late Tuesday evening.
Other parts of the Indian sub-continent have been hit by the rains, with 140 people killed in India and a number of deaths in Afghanistan.
