The issue of women officiating in football has caused substantial controversy in the sport already, but a Brazilian lineswoman has taken the issue one step further, reports Ananova.com.
Ana Paula Oliveira, 29, has stripped off in a photoshoot for Playboy magazine, a decision that seems somewhat at odds with her one-time campaigning for women's rights.
Ms Oliveira was already notorious in Brazilian football for incorrectly disallowing a goal in a Copa Brasil match in May, for which she was given a three-game suspension, says the news website.
Referee's chief Edson Rezende confirmed that the photoshoot could further hamper her already-fledgling career - she has not officiated in any top-flight games since her ban.
"If she took that decision, it's because she must have other career thoughts," his spokesman claimed.
Ms Oliveira has revealed that her mother urged her to take the £125,000 contract, but her choice has attracted criticism from fellow officials, with fellow lineswoman Aline Lambert saying that appearing in Playboy is 'incompatible with the profession'.
Former Luton Town manager Mike Newell received substantial condemnation last season when he made sexist remarks after an allegedly poor performance from a female lineswoman.
