Fog chaos continues into third day
Fog continues to frustrate thousands of passengers at Heathrow airport who are attempting to get home or get away for the holidays.
The bad weather has been responsible for hundreds of cancelled flights over the past two days and Friday sees no sign of a let up, with British Airways having announced that all its domestic flights from the airport have been cancelled, some of which will be replaced by a coach service.
BA has also said that a number of short haul flights to the continent may also be cancelled due to the fog, which is preventing the airport from running at anywhere near full capacity.
Around 40,000 people are expected to be affected by the problems, with around 300 flights in all set to be cancelled at the airport today,
"The weather across much of the UK is regrettably showing little sign of improvement for Friday and therefore we have no option but to make some more cancellations," commented Geoff Want, BA's director of ground operations.
A number of other airports, including Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow, have also been hit by the fog, which is expected to lift on Sunday.
Passengers who have booked flights are strongly advised to call their company before turning up.
