Dense fog causes UK flight disruption
Dense fog at Heathrow airport has led British Airways (BA) to cancel all domestic flights today (December 21st).
BA has urged all customers with bookings for domestic flights not to travel to the airport and that any other customers should check the status of their flight.
Around 180 shorthaul flights have been cancelled today from a normal flying schedule of 400 and BA was forced to cancel 200 flights yesterday due to the persistent lingering fog.
In a statement BA noted: "The cancellations are due to severe fog, which has led to air traffic control significantly reducing the number of flights that can land and take-off each hour at London Heathrow.
"At this stage it is anticipated that the airport will only be able to manage around 50 per cent of the normal landings and take-off rates throughout Thursday December 21st."
The conditions are expected to remain the same for the next 48 hours, impacting upon London Gatwick and Heathrow operations.
There is also disruption at Liverpool John Lennon airport and Coventry airport, where a bus service is ferrying passengers to Birmingham.
