3 dead in Nairobi clashes
Three people have been killed and up to four wounded in clashes between armed police and demonstrators in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, according to the BBC.
Police stormed the Kibera slum, in which 800,000 people cram into just a square mile of land, after a demonstration in support of politician Ndura Waruinge.
Mr Waruinge is the former leader of a banned religious sect and intends to run in next year's parliamentary elections.
Other incidents of violence were reported, including some people suffering from machete wounds thought to be linked to the on-going gang violence in the area.
A number of people have died in recent months due to clashes between rival gangs which have become increasingly prevalent.
The Foreign Office advised against visiting areas where political rallies are scheduled and expressed concern at Kenya's security arrangements.
"Political rallies will be held in the run-up to elections in late 2007. You should avoid political rallies and demonstrations and exercise caution," the department noted.
"We are concerned about the lack of security arrangements in place at Wilson airport in Nairobi. The airport is mainly used for domestic flights, including charters. These have been raised with the Kenyan authorities."
