Dylan musical hounded by critics
The Times They Are A-Changin', a new musical by Twyla Tharp which focuses on the seminal album by Bob Dylan, has not been warmly received by critics, according to the BBC.
The musical opened on Broadway last week and follows on from a number of musicals that have displayed the greatest hits of influential artists.
Tharp's new musical includes the tracks Mr Tambourine Man, Blowin' In The Wind and Subterranean Homesick Blues.
The BBC quoted the Wall Street Journal's Terry Teachout as stating: "The Times They Are A-Changin' is so bad that it makes you forget how good the songs are."
Other reviews were equally impenitent, with many claiming that it doesn't do Dylan's music justice and becomes rather confusing.
This year has seen a return to form for the rock 'n' roll legend, with Modern Times, his first album in five years, becoming hugely successful.
Many music legends have been immortalised in a dramatic form, with Queen, Billy Joel and Abba all enjoying success on the boards.
The Times They Are A-Changin' was performed at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego earlier this year before making the switch to Broadway.
