Hurricane heads towards Mexican coast
Hurricane Paul is continuing to head towards the western coast of Mexico, according to reports.
The US National Hurricane Center told Bloomberg that the eye of the storm was around 385 miles south-southwest off Mexico's Baja California Peninsula at 20:00 Pacific time, yesterday.
The hurricane is expected to pass close to the peninsula today before reaching the mainland region of Sinaloa late this evening.
Jack Beven, an expert from the centre, told Bloomberg that it is difficult to predict how strong the storm will be when it reaches landfall.
"Computer models are indicating slower motion and some are even saying it could shear apart," he said, in which case "the storm could be much weaker".
"There will be some rain no matter what happens," he added.
Mexico was hit by two hurricanes last month, with Hurricane John killing five people and leaving 160 homes destroyed in Baja California.
