Political unrest in Nigeria
The president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared a state of emergency in the state of Ekiti, according to reports.
Ekiti's former governor, Ayo Fayose, was impeached on Monday by the state of house assembly on corruption charges.
Mr Obasanjo and a number of high ranking political figures have criticised the move as being unconstitutional.
In a meeting with Ekiti state leaders, Mr Obasanjo was told that the replacement he had recommended would not be accepted.
Some Nigerian lawyers who supported the impeachment move have stated that it demonstrated the "beauty of democracy", according to the BBC.
The broadcaster's correspondent, Mannir Dan Ali, has stated that if the situation worsens it could turn into a country-wide problem.
Anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria have stated that two thirds of Nigeria's governors are being investigated for corruption.
In addition, new impeachment proceedings on a governor in Anambra state have begun.
