Clowns get serious in Mexico City
Over 400 clowns have gathered in Mexico City for the Fraternity of Latin Clown's annual conference, according to reports.
It is the association's 11th convention and will allow the clowns to discuss serious matters in their field.
Jamie Segovia, the conference organiser, told the BBC: "To be a clown is something really serious. You must be prepared to know how to do your make-up, how to dress, how to act."
The Mexico City meeting will put on workshops, talks and performances for the greater good of clown art. In addition, it's also a perfect excuse for clowns to get together and socialise with other entertainers.
Tomas Morales, a fellow clown, told the Associated Press: "We would like the government to be aware of our existence.
"Because, in some way, we need a school for clowns."
Clowns are well known throughout the world and although this event is aimed at South American clowns, a number of people have travelled from Central American areas.
There are three different types of clown in South America: the Carablancas wear white makeup and mainly entertain children, the Callejeros are street clowns and entertain adults and the Vagabundo clowns follow the routines of Charlie Chaplin.
