Student stabbed to death in St Petersburg
An Indian student has been stabbed to death in St Petersburg in the latest in a series of what appear to be racially motivated attacks, according to reports.
The 27-year-old was killed outside the hostel where he was staying. Fellow students called an ambulance but the student never regained consciousness, according to the BBC.
Nitesh Kumar Singh attended the city's Mechikov Medical Academy and was stabbed several times on Sunday evening (September 23rd).
In the aftermath of Mr Singh's death, around 100 students have been protesting that not enough is being done to protect people from racial attacks.
Ali Nasor, from African Unity, told MosNews: "According to what eyewitnesses say and given other previous murders, I link this to national hatred and organized groups of young people."
Previous attacks linked by racial grounds have been reported in the city. In April a Senegalese man was shot dead in what was believed to be a racially motivated murder.
In March a nine-year-old girl was seriously injured in a stabbing, which was also thought to be linked to her Malian parentage.
Russian authorities are investigating all of the cases, but so far many believe that not enough is being done to combat racism in St Petersburg.
