Virgin bans laptop batteries
Virgin Atlantic has banned Apple and Dell laptop batteries from being used on all flights due to the potential fire risk that they pose.
Recently the two computer makers issued a recall notice on laptop batteries after there were reports that the Sony manufactured packs could catch fire.
Virgin now requires all passengers to remove batteries from their laptops, wrap them up safely and store them in carry-on luggage. A maximum of two batteries will be allowed per passenger.
Virgin stated: "As a result of the current problems being experienced by Apple and Dell with some of the batteries fitted to some laptops, customers wanting to use an Apple or Dell laptop on board can only do so if the battery is removed.
"Virgin is in communication with Apple and Dell. As soon as this safety issue is resolved these restrictions will be lifted."
Passengers on certain flights will have access to power sockets, both in Upper Class and Premium Economy Class.
However, when a power socket is not present laptops cannot be used.
