Sonic boom heard over New Zealand
A loud sonic boom was heard over New Zealand and the force of the noise shook the south of the country on Tuesday (September 12th).
The ground shook and people rushed out of their houses anxious to find out what it was, with the most likely explanation a low-flying meteor.
Matthew Miller told a local radio station: "I saw the end of it. It was quite big and bright and it was just shooting across the sky, then the light went out."
Windows rattled and cars stopped on the road in shock at how loud the boom was.
Kevin Graham told the New Zealand Press Association: "It started off with a little boom then a real massive boom. And I mean massive - like the daddy of all booms.
"I ran outside because I thought my place was going to collapse as well."
No meteor has yet been found and all probability it landed in the sea, however, scientists have continued the search for the space fragment.
