Dubai increases it tour guides
The Dubai department of tourism and commerce marketing has revealed that over 100 people have been trained as tour guides during the past six months.
Since the beginning of 2006, 114 people from 38 different countries have been trained in tour guiding in the country, passing the Dubai Tour Guide Award course.
Manager of human resources at the government department, Ibrahim Yaqoot, commented: "The participants of the course gained invaluable knowledge of Dubai so that they can create a better awareness of our history, culture and traditions."
He added: "They have also learnt about the boom in real estate projects that are currently under progress."
Participants in the training courses were given tours of the most historical sites in Dubai as well as the various other tourist attractions in the region.
Theoretical and practical knowledge related to Dubai was also imparted to the participants and important training in areas such as first aid and general knowledge about Dubai was delivered.
It is hoped that the increased number of tour guides available in Dubai will help to boost the region's tourist trade.
