Northern Thailand hit by floods
Northern Thailand has been hit by flash floods, causing hundreds to evacuate their homes.
Officials in the country say they believe more than 100 people have died as a result of the floods, which were brought about by three days of heavy rain, causing rivers to burst their banks and creating mudslides.
The Uttaradit province has been worst affected, with a number of streets covered with over two metres of water.
More than a thousand people have been evacuated from the area although many people are believed to be trapped in their homes, some 75,000 of which are thought to have sustained damage, according to the Interior Ministry.
Rail services to the northern parts of the country have been suspended, as railway spokesperson Monthskarn Srivilasa told the AFP news agency.
"The floods have inundated the rail lines in the north, and the water is still high. We have to wait until it recedes so we can repair the tracks," he said.
According to government figures, 27 people have been confirmed dead so far.
