Afghanistan hit by violence
As many as 100 people have been killed in Afghanistan as violence has erupted in the country.
In some of the fiercest fighting seen in the country since the US-led invasion five years ago, Taleban fighters appear to have launched a major offensive against police and troops across the country.
Some of the worst violence has been seen in the Helmand province, where there have been severe casualties on both sides, according to Afghan officials.
The violence highlights the serious dangers travellers will face if they decide to make the trip to Afghanistan.
While the country has many beautiful sights, it remains troubled by the threat of attacks from the ousted Taleban regime and this latest outburst of violence serves as a reminder to all that, despite the victory of coalition forces in 2001, the Taleban remains a potentially dangerous force.
