Landmine kills 12 in India
A landmine has blown up 12 people in India, police in the country have revealed.
While details remain sketchy and it is not known how many people were injured in the blast, it is understood that the 12 were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in rode over the landmine.
It is believed that the mine was planted by Maoist rebels in the Maharashtra state.
Violence in India has flared in recent weeks as the Indian government looks to tackle the threat from the rebels head-on.
Earlier this month the authorities announced they had relocated around 50,000 people from their homes in a bid to break up the Maoist insurgency, but this latest attack highlights the dangers which still remain in the country for visitors and travellers alike.
The Indian government believes the country has around 10,000 Maoist rebels, as the movement continues its hostile actions against the authorities.
