Canada proves popular with tourists
British tourists have become the second most frequent visitors to Canada, according to latest industry figures.
More Brits than ever are choosing to take their holidays in Canada, with figures from the Canadian Tourism Commission showing that over 900,000 British travellers flew over last year.
"These numbers serve to strengthen the position of the UK as the second largest market to Canada after the US," explained Maggie Davidson, managing director of the Canadian Tourism Commission.
This is the first time that visitor numbers have been so high and has been attributed in part to the increased availability of cheap return tickets from London to Montreal.
Films such as Lord of the Rings have also increased interest in Canada, with Brits tempted by the sprawling hills, impressive mountains and scenic views, as well the relaxed way of life and friendly locals.
Tourism forecasts predict that numbers will continue to go up, with festivals to celebrate its 400th founding year in 2008 and the Winter Olympics in 2010.
