Melbourne expands airport
Melbourne airport has finished its expansion in time for the Commonwealth Games.
Its new 5,000 square metre lounge will accommodate more passengers than ever as well as make room for the new double-decker A380 aircraft.
Melbourne has expanded not just for the games but also in anticipation for an expected growth in passenger numbers over the coming years. Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Barlow said: "This project is the last major step in the airports multimillion dollar apron, runway and terminal development program to accommodate continued growth in international passenger traffic and the new-generation A380 aircraft."
The airport has experienced the fastest growth in international passenger numbers for any Australian airport over the past eight years
Not just bigger, the expansion allows better views of nearby Mount Macedon along with gates offering a "fantastic view" of the noses of parked aircraft.
Boasting of being good value and the lowest charging Australian international airport, operators expect to see tourist numbers swell due to the improvements.
