Split Nightlife
Fish lovers will be spoilt for choice in Split. The city has a wonderful range of fishy delicacies and restaurants in which to dine. Dishes to try include brodet, which is mixed fish stew, lignje na zaru (grilled squid) and black squid risotto, which is known as crni rizot. For those less than enamoured with fish, perhaps the city's famed pizzas will keep you happy. They are said to be second only to Italian varieties in terms of flavour and choice.
Those wishing to dine out on good local fare at a reasonable price should ensure they head to Sperun on the street of the corresponding name, where an intimate and warm welcome awaits you.
In the Bacvice district you will find Stellon on Setaliste Bacvice, which has a number of fine dishes, at a slightly increased price.
For those really willing to splash the cash, try the Firule part of town. Here you will find Sumica on Put Firula, famed for its stunning sea views and fine dining and Boban on Hektoroviceva, which despite its less than appealing exterior is beautifully decorated once in and has a good range of dishes.
Split has a does a fine job in providing quaint watering holes and polite cafes but the visitor not have to work hard to discover the swanky bars and clubs. A top tip is to head to establishments around Diocletian?s Palace as this is where many of the city's pretty young things like to head. If they are not there, they will be at the huge Bacvice complex to the south-east of the city centre, which has numerous bars and clubs.
One of the top bars close to Diocletian's Palace is Bifora on Poljana Stare Gimnazije, which has its fair share of dancing as well as posing. The same can be said of the Red Room on Carrarina Poljana, where things can really hot up late at night, making moving on to a club hardly necessary.
For something a little more bohemian, why not try Academia Ghetto Club on Dosud or Po Bota on Subiceva.
In the Bacvice part of town visitors will have no trouble finding a lively bar and Tropic Club Equador is widely regarded as one of the best.
Clubbers are spoilt for choice in Bacvice, although Discovery is probably the most popular club and is rammed on the weekends when locals turn up in their droves.
For a more sedate evening why not try the Croatian National Theatre on Trg Gaje Bulata, where a range of local and international performances are regularly aired.
