Sarajevo Nightlife
Eating out in Sarajevo is a real treat for those with varied tastes. A city with such a diverse history has a plethora of different styles to try from, with the city's Turkish quarter offering a particularly fine range of delights. If it's traditional Bosnian foods you are after in a restaurant, you will normally find yourself confronted with meat and potatoes of some sort, with vegetarians finding themselves with few options. Those on the go are particularly well catered for in Sarajevo, with Cevapi, the local kebab, and Burek, filo pastry stuffed with meat, in abundance.
For good Turkish fare head to Inat Kuca, on Veliki Alifakovac in Bascarsija. This converted old Turkish house down by the river offers a number of decently priced dishes, with the stew particularly recommended.
For the best on Bosnian fare, try Park Princeva on Iza Hrida. It is moderately priced and offers superb views of the city so worth getting to it before the sun has gone completely down.
Capucino in Grbavica is another good place to go for excellent local cooking. It is also renowned for serving some of the best Italian dishes around, making it perfect for couples or groups who cannot agree on what they fancy.
Fish lovers and vegetarians can unite at the Karuzo establishment on Mehmeda Spahe. A select number of fine dishes are available and the restaurant is a very intimate affair, with the boss operating as both waiter and chef. A touch on the expensive side but well worth it. Book ahead if possible as space is severely limited.
Nightlife in Sarajevo is buzzing and the city is a beautiful place to be of an evening as the lights of the city reflect off the water.
There are plenty of fine bars and clubs to try and few where you will encounter any fashion police on the door. The main pedestrianised area known as Ferhadija is a good place to start the evening, with many cafes and bars offering visitors the chance of a quiet drink or two before finding some of the city's noisier establishments.
For a lively bar that is foreigner friendly head to Kinema. A lively, young crowd keep this place buzzing and the film posters on the walls will keep you amused even if the company is tedious.
If you want to know where the locals go to let their hair down, search out Club Fis, This intimate establishment is usually busy and could be seen as more of a bar than a club but that doesn't stop hundreds of Sarajevans from dancing the night away in it.
If it's a theatrical event you're after, try the National Theatre of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where a number of productions, many of which may be new to you, are put on.
