Warsaw Nightlife
Warsaw is home to a varied mix of pubs, bars and clubs, with a scene to suit all individuals. The city has seen a huge influx of foreign tourists over recent years, with many arriving simply to sample the city's nightlife experience. Otherwise known as stag parties, these individuals are best avoided, but you can be sure that few will find their way to the following establishments, which are mainly inhabited the more discerning locals.
In recent years a number of plush, trendy bars have sprung up in the city centre, attracting a mixture of well-heeled youngsters and young professionals. If posing is your thing, there are many places to enjoy yourself.
One of the coolest places to hang out in is Foksal 19 on the street that lends the place its name. This chic bar attracts a young crowd to its modern downstairs lounge and upstairs nightclub, which puts on a huge variety of evenings.
Sense on ulica Nowy Swiat is a relaxed bar, which has a large wine and cocktail list, with the ginger rose vodka especially recommended. Slightly less pretentious than some places, Sense is a good place to start if you're not quite up to full poser status yet.
Fans of dancing with Poles should head to Enklawa on ulica Mazowiecka. This plush club is transformed late in the evening in to a large dancing frenzy. Before you get to that point, however, make sure to have checked out the extensive list of drinks available and surveyed the scene from the upper balcony. Wednesday is 'old school' night, when music from the 70s, 80s and 90s gets more playtime than usual.
For a significantly less refined experience but a friendly atmosphere, try Lolek on ulica Rokitnicka. Here you will find a hefty dose of camaraderie and a wide range of beers to drink the night away with.
If you're looking for somewhere a touch unusual, try Pub Tropikalny Palmiarnia on the Royal Castle Square. Set in a large greenhouse, you'll be sipping reasonably priced cocktails or cheap beer surrounded by tropical plants and palm trees and there is normally a barbeque on as well.
The city is home to a number of live music haunts and there should be something going on most nights of the week, with jazz shows especially popular. The leading jazz names tend to come to Sala Kongresowa although these are irregular events. Tygmont on ulica Mazowiecka is small and atmospheric and is the place to go if you like your jazz experimental, while inside the Polonia Palace Hotel you will find more mainstream jazz offerings every night of the week.
Dekada on ulica Grojecka hosts local rock bands while Stodola on ulica Batorego and Proxima on ulica Zwirki I Wigury are more upscale venues, attracting Poland's best groups as well as less well-known bands from overseas.
