Valencia Nightlife
Valencia is famed across Spain for its discos and nightclubs, meaning that travellers looking to enjoy a night painting the town red will be in for a treat. While the region is popular with locals and visitors alike, many of the venues have remained relatively cheap something which has helped pull in clubbers from around the region. The people of Valencia enjoy a good party and the weekend is excuse enough for most. That means from Friday night to Sunday evening there is almost always something going on in the pubs, bars and clubs of the city and for many of the younger generation sleep is a commodity best left for when they are older. As such, every weekend they go in search of La Movida, or the Movement, which refers to the nocturnal activities of a city which refuses to yield to sleep, meaning long parties at packed clubs across Valencia. For the majority of top night spots, take a trip to the outskirts of the city centre, although there are also a number situated along the Valencia-Cullera road. Bars and restaurants also populate the beach area of the city and as such offer a beautiful location to enjoy an evening of fun and music. Many of the best places to visit are close to beach, meaning that people will often spill out of the bars and clubs onto the sands at the end of the night, providing the ideal opportunity for a moonlit stroll home. The city has a lively ambience by day, but as the sun goes down that atmosphere is magnified and Valencia comes alive to the sound of music, often playing through till dawn. There is no limit on the length of time bars and clubs can stay open and many take advantage of this, drawing crowds well into the early hours. Valencia's clubs can get rather busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, so travellers to the region should come prepared for queues and bustling crowds at almost every top night spot. In the summer months this can make for a particularly hot night, but it is worth the heat to enjoy the lively, fun-filled nature of this city. Calle Juan Llorens is a popular spot with many clubbers and has numerous pubs and bars. It is almost customary to pay a visit to this street when on a night out and enjoy some of the various bars on offer. For those who prefer a more sedate evening, the traditional lengthy evening meal in Spain means that those arriving at a restaurant in the early evening are unlikely to leave much before midnight. Spend time sipping wine while enjoying your tapas or paella, but never worry as the evening slips into night the clubs and bars of Valencia open late mainly to accommodate the Spanish eating style, which means most clubs do not really get going until after midnight anyway! To see how Valencians really party, however, a trip to the city during Las Fallas, celebrating Saint Joseph's Day on March 19th every year, is a must. Each neighbourhood creates a large effigy which is eventually burned, but not before all the communities converge onto the streets, where firecrackers and fireworks fill the air.
