With stunning views of the sea and the mountains, as a location for a meal out, Vancouver, is already on to a winner. The good news is that Vancouver's wonderful location also goes a long way to providing the city's eateries with some fantastic produce. The proximity of the western seaboard means that the city is a delight for fish lovers. Ask any local and they'll tell you that British Columbia salmon is the best in the world. Vancouver has a huge oriental community, and this translates in to a staggering number of sushi and noodle bars in the city, the majority of which are to be found in China Town. It has been said that Vancouver offers the best sushi outside of Tokyo. British Columbia is renowned for its wine, and grape lovers would be well advised to make an excursion to the Okanagon Valley to try various vintages first hand. Many of the better equipped restaurants in the city offer a wide range of BC wines, with the Cedar Creek variety especially popular among locals. The area also has an impressive number of local beers to choose, with the small but growing Granville Island Company brewing some of the tastiest offerings around, while for lighter beer lovers, try a Kokanee, or for a taste of Canada's eastern seaboard, a Moosehead If you can afford it, the Raincity Grill on Denman Street will give you a wonderful introduction to Vancouver cuisine. The menu changes with the seasons, while the wine cellar is fully stocked with the best local produce and the excellent service is only matched by the views over the waterfront. The city has a huge number of seafood restaurants to choose from but the Fish House in beautiful Stanley Park is renowned for being the choice of courting couples with a penchant for fish suppers. Those looking for a vegetarian option should head for Naam in Kitsilano. You won't fail to be impressed by the range of veggie options available, with Mexican platters, stir fries and veggie burgers among the many dishes on offer. The place has the added bonus of nightly live music and organic beers. Hon's Wun-Tun House on East Keefer Street in China Town is the site of cheap yet hearty meals. A breathtaking 334 dishes are on offer, with the dumplings getting particular mention. For good Canadian fair with a classy twist, Slickity Jim's Chat 'n Chew on Main Street is recommended. The restaurant offers dishes such as Revolution Eggs (jazzed up ham and eggs) and Ball and Bull (eggs Benedict with prosciutto and gorgonzola). For breakfast or lunch on the cheap, Elbow Room in Yaletown is a must. The place has built its reputation on breakfast until 4pm and abusive waiters be sure to give as good as you get. Finally, for the best burgers in Vancouver, head to Vera's Burger Shack on Dundarave beach in West Vancouver best enjoyed after a bracing dip in Burrard Inlet.
