Krakow Nightlife
Enjoying an evening drink in the heart of Krakow or in one of its more unusual pubs in the Kazimierz region of the city can provide the perfect start to an evening. And with so much choice there is guaranteed to be somewhere that is to the visitor's liking. This breadth of choice in relation to the pubs and clubs on offer on Krakow can be somewhat overwhelming for visitors, particularly those not staying in the city for long periods. It is not unknown, therefore, for some weekend visitors to the city to extend their experience of Krakow by sacrificing sleep instead staying up long into the nights to sample the atmosphere of the city after dark. A warm and welcoming city during the daytime, Krakow maintains that atmosphere into the night and travellers can often be struck by the friendly ambience of the city and its night-time revellers. The club scene in Krakow is particularly lively and well-known across Poland. As in almost every other area, the city battles with the Polish capital of Warsaw for supremacy as the top night spot in the country. Although Fridays and Saturdays boast by far the best club nights, travellers will be pleased to learn that the city also has a vast array of top nightlife venues open and busy during the week. Clubbing in Krakow is not particularly cheap, although the large number of clubs which are continuing to spring up across the city means that there is enough competition to keep prices relatively low. As in most cities across the world, weekends are usually more expensive than any other night. However, some places do provide good value for money. Many of the clubs around the city are fairly small, which means that they can offer intimate experiences particularly when hosting live acts or when DJs know how to work the crowd. Top DJs from around Poland often make appearances in the city and occasionally Krakow is visited by internationally-renowned DJs, but the fact that so many of the city's clubs are relatively small means that these performances are relatively rare and usually difficult to get into. One of the best clubs in Krakow is Afera, which offers clubbers hits from the 1960s right up to the present day. Always a great venue to relax and hang out, there are eight rooms meaning there is almost bound to be a tune you will want to dance to at any given time. Covering a wide variety of genres from rock to pop to R'n'B and hip hop, this club is ideal for those unsure about what kind of clubbing experience they are looking for, as it covers them all! Another favourite club is the Art Club Bledne Kolo, which offers another eclectic mix of music, covering genres such as tribal, electro and progressive, as well as chill out, house, dub and reggae, while doubling up as a gallery during the day. There is plenty of live entertainment on offer in Krakow, with many musical performances taking place at venues across the city. Regardless of age, there will almost always be some performance to suit every taste, right across the musical spectrum. A particular speciality of the city, however, seems to be jazz. There are a wide variety of jazz clubs to choose from and some offer exceptionally good performances.
