Los Angeles Nightlife
With so many stars living in the locale, it is important that they are kept entertained and it is little wonder that LA has some of the top clubs on the west coast. In Hollywood itself, there are a number of happening clubs which offer the best music of the day, with all genres catered for. And it is perhaps no surprise that many of the venues will also host celebrity performances, as the rich recording history of this city was founded on those DJs cutting their teeth in the business in these very clubs. A popular area among travellers and even a number of celebrity locals, is the Universal CityWalk in Hollywood, which is a huge complex surrounded by all the entertainment you could wish for. At night, the area comes alive with a variety of clubs and bars, so that all tastes are catered for. Whether it's a laid back evening sipping beer in a bar, or a dance-filled night with pumping beats that you're looking for, Universal CityWalk has it covered. Because of the proximity of some of the biggest record companies in the world, there are always plenty of live performances going on, as young wannabes attempt to catch the eye or perhaps ear of a record producer, while old hands often like to come back to where it all started. As such, there is usually lots going on for those who enjoy live music and once again the performances tend to run the gamut of musical genres. The most famous venue is the Hollywood Bowl, which holds almost 18,000 seated and is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Los Angeles has a large gay and lesbian community and as such a great number of gay bars and clubs have sprung up in the city. While the heart of the city holds most of these, in recent years there has been a trend for gay nightlife to move away from the downtown area and out into quieter districts such as Silverlake and Los Feliz. For those who enjoy their comedy, LA has a number of comedy clubs which have some top entertainers performing. At the Comedy Store, on the world famous Sunset Boulevard, for example, Louie Anderson has a regular Sunday night spot and he often brings special guests along with him. Anderson is famous in the US for his sitcom Life With Louie and as the host on game show, Family Feud. Meanwhile, the Ice House in Pasadena is renowned for launching big stars. Among those who have cut their teeth doing stand-up here include David Letterman and Steve Martin, so visitors may get the first glimpse of comedy's next big thing at this club.
