Topsfield Fair
New England, USA -
28 September 2007 to 8 October 2007
Topsfield Fair is billed as America's oldest fair, with a wide range of activities and stalls for all the family.
The fair began in 1818, when only 18 stars were on the American flag and the country was only four decades into independence.
Essex Agricultural Society owns and operates the fair and maintains the event's long and well respected history.
A number of events are held at the Topsfield Fairgrounds, but the main event of the year is without doubt the Topsfield Fair.
Proceedings get underway at the town common and a parade takes the fair to the fairgrounds.
During the fair there are a variety of livestock and agricultural showings, a number of which are considered as among the oldest in the north east of the US.
Demonstrations and craft exhibits are plentiful, as are games and rides for children with a variety of live shows throughout.
The Topsfield Fair is described as a must for every family calendar.
