New Zealand Film Festival
New Zealand -
13 July 2007 to 29 November 2007
The New Zealand Film Festival is actually a collection of city film festivals that spread over the summer and into the end of November.
The Wellington event and the Auckland festival both began in the early 1970s with a few films and small audiences.
Now cities like Wellington enjoy a packed programme that attracts over 70,000 people to the shows.
Festivals occur in Dunedin, Christchurch, Palmerston, Auckland and Wellington with stop offs at most major towns.
Each town has a well organised programme, with brochures available from a huge amount of stores and libraries in the area.
Most film goers just find out what's going on in their town and then pick a film. Alternatively visitors can stop off at other locations and catch a different showing.
New Zealand has benefited enormously from the film industry in recent years, with the Lords of the Rings trilogy being filmed in the country.
