New York City Pride
New York, USA -
18 June 2007 to 25 June 2007
Over 750,000 people annually attend the New York Pride which includes four highly popular events over the one week period.
The first major event is the Gay Pride Rally, which involves campaigners and organisers making short speeches before a march begins through the city's streets.
After the official campaigning, PrideFest and assorted dance events allow participants to unwind and enjoy the rest of the festival.
New York City Pride is organised and funded by Heritage of Pride, a non profit organisation which relies on donations to stay in existence.
Heritage of Pride was founded in 1984 and still only has just over 30 members of staff, who collect sponsorship and organise New York's four main events.
The organisation was the first to use the rainbow flag to represent gay rights on the east coast of America and it has led the way in campaigning for equality.
