Zurich Festival
Zurich, Switzerland -
15 June 2007 to 8 July 2007
The Zurich Festival is now entering its 11th year and is looking to add to its reputation as one of the premier arts festivals in Europe.
The majority of the events are held in the Tonhalle and an array of productions are played by the Tonhalle Orchestra to coincide with the festival's themes.
Last year, two conductors focused on the respective 250th and 100th birthdays of Mozart and Shostakovich. Although no such landmark arrives this year, visitors should still expect to hear a blend of scores by legendary figures as well as new musical talent.
Guest orchestras and conductors are regularly invited from other European countries to add a different spice to proceedings.
In addition, there are also open air concerts and the Midsummer Night's Ball at Zurich Main Station. The ball is particularly popular and is held in a unique and historic environment.
Zurich and its river and lake areas take on a Mediterranean flare during the summer. Wine bars and cafes open till the early hours and visitors relax in riverside chairs.
