What is a private room?
A private room is a room that is not shared with other people from the hostel – in other words, you book and pay for all the beds in the room. If you are traveling alone, for example, but want to book a double room, you must pay for two people in order to book the whole room. (That's why the option to book for one person in a double room, for example, isn’t available in the select box.)
How do I book a private room?
To book, select the number of people you want to book for from the box next to your chosen room (remembering that you must book all the beds in a room!). Check that your arrival date and the number of nights are correct, and then click on the ‘Book Rooms’ button. This will take you to our secure payment page to complete your booking.
You can book as many dormitory and private rooms as you want:
If you are looking to book for more than 10 people, though, you may get a better deal by using our Group Enquiry form.
The prices given are per person not per room.
In some cases (public holidays, festivals, major events etc.), the prices of rooms may be higher for certain days. They will be shown on the ‘Checkout’ page before you confirm the booking.
Do private rooms have their own bathrooms?
As a general rule, bathroom facilities are shared unless it says otherwise. A room with its own exclusive bathroom (as opposed to a bathroom shared with other rooms) will have ‘ensuite’ written next to it, e.g. ‘Private Double (ensuite)’ or ‘6 Bed Dorm (ensuite)’.
Please note: ‘Private room’ is different to ‘Private bathroom’.
Ensuite - Is a room with its own bathroom
Single - Is a private room with one (single) bed for one person
Double - Is a private room with one (large) bed for two people
Twin - Is a private room with two single beds for two people

Any changes to your reservation must be notified to and agreed with the Supplier(s) concerned directly, and are at their discretion.
We will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if the Supplier needs to make a significant change to your confirmed arrangements or to cancel them. Yes, if it mentions this in the facilities list. If not, be prepared to pay the outstanding balance in cash on your arrival.
What facilities does the property include in the price of a bed?
There is a list at the bottom of each property’s overview page which lists services that are offered and whether or not the property will charge guests for them. These can include breakfast, bed linen and towels, airport pick-up and luggage room storage.
What is a dormitory room?
A dormitory room, or ‘dorm’ room, is a bedroom which you share with other people from the property. The number of beds in a room is shown in its name, e.g. ‘Dorm (6 bed)’, and you can book as many as you need. Some properties have male only dorms and female only dorms. If this isn’t stated in the property information, assume that your dorm will be a mixed dorm (with both males and females). If there is a bathroom that is only for the use of your room, you will see ‘ensuite’ or ‘with bathroom’. Otherwise the bathroom will be shared with guests from other rooms.
How do I book a dormitory room?
A dormitory room is booked by the number of beds, not the number of rooms. The property lists all rooms with available beds for the dates you selected. To book, select ‘number of people’ from the box next to your chosen room. Check that your arrival date and the number of nights you’ve selected are correct. Click on the ‘Book Rooms’ button; this will take you to our secure payment page to finish your booking.
You can book as many dormitory and private rooms as you want:
If you book for more than 10 people you may get a better deal by using our Group Enquiry form.
The prices given are per person not per room.
In some cases (public holidays, festivals, major events etc.) prices of rooms and beds may be higher for certain days. They will be shown on the ‘Checkout’ page before you confirm the booking.
Ensuite - Is a room with its own bathroom
Single - Is a private room with one (single) bed for one person
Double - Is a private room with one (large) bed for two people
Twin - Is a private room with two single beds for two people
How do I make a booking?
When you have picked a destination, you'll be presented with a list of available accommodation for your chosen dates. You can look at each property in detail from here, and view the location of all the hostels on a map of the destination.
Each property overview page will include images, guest ratings and reviews and details of the facilities it provides. You can view the types of room available for your chosen dates on the right hand side of the page. To view the prices in a different currency, select one of the five major currencies available from the drop-down list.
Once you have decided where you would like to stay, select the number of people you wish to book for in your chosen type(s) of room. Next, check that the dates and the number of nights selected are correct. Then click on the 'Book Now' button.
This will take you to the last step of your booking - the secure ‘Checkout’ page where you need to enter your payment details to confirm the reservation. Once this form has been filled out, you will receive an email from the HostelBookers team with full details of the booking, as well as contact information and directions for the property.
The Card Security Code (CCV) is the last three digits of the longer number printed on your debit/credit card. Most cards have the number printed at the top of the signature strip on the reverse side of the card.
This number is not imprinted on the card and hence not printed on receipts – which is what makes it difficult for anyone other than the cardholder to know it. Some card issuers refer to this number as the 'Card Security Code' others as the 'Personal Security Code' and others as 'Card Verification Value'.

Can I see the price in a different currency?
Yes, you can! At the top of each property overview page, there is an option just below the 'Book this Property' title to view the price of all available beds in a drop-down list of five major currencies.
You can see the prices in either Australian Dollars, British Pounds, Canadian Dollars, Euros or US Dollars. If you'd like to see the price displayed in one of these currencies, simply click on the one you'd prefer from the list and it will appear on the page.
When you come to the 'Checkout’ page after booking, please note that the accommodation price will appear both in the property's local currency and whichever currency you have selected on the property overview page.
Privacy
HostelBookers understands and respects the importance of your privacy and we are committed to safeguarding your personal information. In providing our service to you, we must collect personal information from you and make subsequent use of it as detailed below.
HOW?
We will only collect personal information from you by specifically asking for it:-
What exactly do the ratings and reviews for HostelBookers properties mean?
The rating – which is given as a percentage (%) – and reviews are feedback from guests who previously stayed at the property.
Ratings are available for all accommodation where six or more guests have provided feedback. The overall percentage reflects an average rating across the last 25 feedback forms and over eight different categories. Obviously, the higher the score, the better!
You can see the ratings on both the search result listing pages and on the property overview pages in more detail.
The categories are:
Atmosphere: did the property have a good travel vibe?
Location: is the property well situated for exploring the destination and the sights? And is it convenient for the airport, bus or train station>?
Staff: are the members of staff helpful and friendly?
Cleanliness: how clean and tidy is the property?
Facilities: are there a good range of facilities and services available at the property for guests?
Safety: are valuables safe in the property? Is it located in a safe area of the destination?
Fun: is there entertainment available at the property, or just a fun, sociable atmosphere amongst the guests?
Value: does the property represent value for money considering its price, facilities and other things that HostelBookers' customers find important?
What is a shared room?
A shared room, often known as a dormitory or ‘dorm’ room, is a bedroom which you share with other guests staying at the property. The number of beds in a room will typically vary from 4 to 12 and will be shown in the description, e.g. ‘Dorm (6 bed)’. You can book as many beds as you need.
Some properties have male only and female only shared rooms. If this isn’t stated in the property information, though, you should assume that your room will be mixed (with both males and females).
Most dorms also share a bathroom with guests from other rooms, although if there is a private bathroom you will also see this in the description sas ‘ensuite’ or ‘with bathroom’.
How do I book a shared room?
A shared room is booked by the number of beds, not by the number of rooms. The property will list all rooms with available beds for the dates you have selected. To book, select the correct ‘number of people’ from the box next to your chosen room. Check that your arrival date and the number of nights you’ve selected are correct, then click on the ‘Book Now' button; this will take you to our secure payment page to finish your booking.
How many beds can I book?:
You can book as many beds in shared rooms as you need, subject to availibility of course. If you're looking for accommodation for a group of more than 10 people, however, you may want to contact our Group Travel Team .
What do the prices mean?
The prices listed are always per person, not per room. In some cases (such as public holidays, festivals, major events etc.) the price of a bed may be higher for certain days than is listed in our search results. This, however, will always be shown on the ‘Checkout’ page before you confirm the booking.
