Liked: We were very well looked after by Martin who seems to be here 24 hours a day. We were even upgraded to a bigger room for free which was a family room (double bed and a single). The room had a huge opening window which looks out onto the alley were locals are eating and selling their produce. The location is excellent and the area certainly feels safe enough. I would definitely recommend staying here it has been a wonderful stay.

Liked: We loved everything about our stay at Splendid Star 2. We stayed over Christmas and it was the perfect location for the holiday because it is right near the church where people were gathering to celebrate. The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful in every way.

Liked: We loved staying at Splendid Star 2. It was our favorite hotel in Vietnam. The staff was courteous and friendly, especially Martin. The room was a good size, very comfortable, and very clean. Our room included a computer and a proper shower which is always exciting when traveling in Asia. We tried to extend our stay but the hotel was booked so they gave us a room in their "sister hotel" next door with a similar name. It was comparable but not as good. I highly recommend Splendid Star 2.

Liked: Definitely good value for money. We had a nice modern room with TV, AC, safety box, nice bathroom. Breakfast was included. They offer also a bunch of tours however you can find them for half price in the tourist offices in the surrounding.

Disliked: The staff was very friendly in the beginning. On departure (or when they realized that we didn't book their tours) the friendliness has been substituted with disinterest or casualness. But that seems to be a common phenomena at least in northern Vietnam. As soon as they got the money there is no more need to be pleasant.

Liked: Very new and modern looking hotel in a great location, close to old town with large rooms and good beds. Breakfasts were great and we were always being offered free coffee, tea, juices and fruit whenever we walked past the front desk. Martin was extremely helpful with getting us settled in for our week in Hanoi, providing a good map of the city, information on places to eat, things to see and where to shop and arranging taxis for us when needed. After shopping around for tours to Halong Bay, we booked through the hotel because all the other places were priced about the same for similar quality tours.

Disliked: Everything was great.

Liked: Likes: Great value, great location, great staff. One of those rare hotels that make you wish you could stay longer. Our last stay in this same hotel two years ago was fabulous. This time, they even had a bottle of wine thrown in for free when we checked in! And many thanks to Martin the concierge -- you're very helpful and very funny guy!

Liked: Everythig. It is an excelent place to stay in Hanoi. you have computer in your room, wc, tv and frige. Breackfast is great and the location is pretty good. Staff is very helpfully,

Disliked: We did a 1 day tour to Ha long bay with them. This is not good because you will spend 8 hours on the bus and 2 hours shopping. Plus, the tous is supose to have 4 hours on the boat but the guide let us stay 1 hour in a floating house and went to pick other people!! Stay here but book the tours elsewhere.

Liked: The hotel's concierge, Martin, makes all the difference. If the hotel's owners are keen they'll give him an equity stake and keep him running the hotel as long as possible. Objectively, the hotel is simply a good value in a good location - simple, clean, and comfortable. With Martin on staff it becomes a one stop shop for your solutions to your smallest or largest problems.

Liked: This is possibly the best place we've ever stayed in, and definitely the best value for money. Our host, Martin, was an absolute superstar from the free drinks on our arrival, to helping us book bus tickets, getting us taxis, and even letting us use a room to shower and change when we returned briefly from a trip to Halong Bay. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, and beautifully decorated - in Europe I wouldn't be surprised if they were 10x the price here or more. All in all, we had a wonderful time at Splendid Star and we were very sad to leave.

Liked: The best hotel I stayed at in Vietnam. Beautiful rooms and very helpful staff. Free lemon juice and a PC in the room - excellent! Very good selection for breakfast - not just eggs!

Disliked: I think we got a bit overcharged on the tour and train ticket. But in the end, service was so good that I don't even mind :-).

Liked: The hotel sounded good on the website but exceeded expectations - huge luxurious room, with TV & DVD and a computer in the room with free internet access. It was spotlessly clean - probably because it was cleaned everyday during our stay. And breakfast was included, with lots of choice. The staff are lovely and friendly and very helpful. The location is perfect for walking around the old quarter. Great introduction to our Vietnam trip.

Liked: Splendid is fantastic value for money. It has amazing facilities (flatscreen TV, (with english channels), beautiful clean spacious rooms, ensuites, free internet with computers in the rooms). The staff are brilliant. They speak excellent english and can help you get the most out of your time in Hanoi and book quality trips for you. The free breakfast is also top class as you can pick from a menu it isn't a simple buffet. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Liked: The staff are particularly helpful and friendly, going out of their way to assist. Location is close to the action, but in a quiet laneway that doesn't fit cars and doesn't attract through traffic. The hotel held our luggage while we went to Halong Bay for three days as well.

Disliked: Nothing - we're very happy with the hotel.

Liked: The room was awesome, the best we had in Vietnam. Also the breakfast is really really good.

Disliked: When we arrived there for the second time, the staff had forgotten about our booking, so we had to stay next door. But in the end that was not a problem at all.

Liked: This hotel is perfectly new, perfectly located and perfectly run. Decor is modern and imaginative, room comfortable, furnishings very tasteful an imaginative. Food is excellent. Staff courteous. I travel a lot and stay in good hotels all over Asia.This one ranks with others twice the price.

Liked: Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Splendid Star 2 Hotel for looking after all of us including our 3 children. The rooms are great. The size was great for us with 3 children. It is not a luxury hotel, but the rooms are clean and LARGE....it's nice to have multiple tv's when you are traveling with kids. The location is perfect for seeing & exploring Hanoi. Would love to go back again.

Liked: Staff were fantastic - both friendly and helpful.Room was great - very large with decent beds and a nice bathroom. Location cant be beat with only a second on foot away from St Joseph's Cathedral and all the major attractions such as the Hian Kiem lake, temple, Water puppet theatre, Hanoi Opera House.The hotels breakfast was toast, juice, and a selection of fruit, cereal and baked goods that isnt amazing but very handy to start your day.The hotel offers free fruit and drinks to its guests which was a great touch.

Liked: What a gem of a hotel!!! Can't say enough good things about my stay there. Booked 3 nights at the begining of Dec and enjoyed every minute. Great staff, location,room, super clean, great breakfast every morning and the hotel is small so not noisy or too tourist-y. Perfect location for shoppers or those sight seeing.

Liked: Outstanding hotel - well located, spotlessly clean, fantastic service ... couldn't recommend it more highly and it will certainly be my hotel of choice for Hanoi for now on. Staff also recommended a fantastic little restaurant just beside the hotel church. Always a nice touch when they really know the area well.

Liked: I stayed at Splendid Star 2 Hotel just 1 night in October and loved every minute of it. The location was great , the rooms were beautiful and would satisfy the most discriminating of travelers, the staff are all hard working and looking to please, the owners are a super nice, smart and bend over backwards to make sure your stay is a great one. I would never have had the same service in a large hotel..I will definitely return for all of my trips to Hanoi- personal and work!
