Liked: easy access to near by attractions. clean room and neat setup.

Disliked: Share restroom may need to add airfreshner to keep smell nice. Restroom was clean n nice but too strong smell was strong.

Liked: I like the location of the hotel, really close to good 'old' New York, Union Square, it's never far from anywhere. The rooms are a good size, clean, very comfortable bed, always clean towels. This is the third time I have stayed at the hotel, so that speaks for itself.

Disliked: I dislike NOTHING about this hotel. All I can say if you want luxury and ensuite, this won't be the hotel for you.

Disliked: Manager came in our room one morning without knocking.

Liked: It was cheap at $89 a night.

Disliked: Pretty much everything: the rudeness of the staff, the radiator being loud at night, not keeping up with wake up calls. The list can go on and on.

Liked: Hotel 17 is great value for the comparable low price. It's got style, is clean. My room was very quiet. Staff was friendly. Furthermore the location is great. It's close to public transport, but lots of sights are walkable. Some good restaurants and bars are near. The area is very safe , which is important for a single female. I enjoyed my stay a lot and would come back again to Hotel 17.

Disliked: I don't like carpets in hotel rooms / hotels as they don't seem to be very hygienic. Still everything was clean and there were no smells.

Liked: Very good for travelling alone. Nice decorations, good location. I also liked that there was no line for the shared bathroom :)

Disliked: that's a shame they don't serve breakfast

Liked: The room was small, but it was well-located and neat. Also, the have a luggage room where you can keep your bags all day, and pick them up whenever you are ready to leave the city.

Disliked: The staff was awful! Especially the guy who works at night. He charged us more than he was supposed to, was extremely rude talking on the phone, and was inpatient and obnoxious.

Liked: Reception staff were very helpful. Hotel is in an excellent location - great part of Manhattan that's close to everything with plenty of cafes / bars / shops in the vicinity.

Disliked: This is really a hotel, not really a hostel. Don't come here expecting to meet other travellers.

Liked: No real WIFI connection. sucks!!!! All the rest was ok... one would expect for paying more then a $150 a night to get at least free, unlimited internet connection!!! Internet is there but cannot really be used as it will cut off after 300 KB of download... Suck as we are in 2011!!!

Liked: It has a good location for the price and it's a very pretty hotel, with old New York decor.

Disliked: It smells a bit in the hallways and stairwells but the rooms are fine. Also, found i slightly annoying that there was only two bathrooms for about 8 or 9 rooms on my floor and only one bathroom had a handbasin.

Liked: It has real character. The wallpaper may give you a headache but overall the decor is really fun and old school. The staff were very friendly and there was a porter to help with bags. There was an elevator so no need to worry about lugging suitcases up stairs and a luggage room if you need it. The check out time was 12pm which was really great as you had enough time to do more touristy things in the morning before you had to check out. The rooms were basic but had everything you needed and were clean. They gave you shampoo, soap and moisturiser which was handy, especially if you had been travelling for a long time before getting there and were in desperate need of such things! The room I was in had a shared bathroom so I was expecting it to be hostel standard but they were really nice! There are 2 bathrooms per floor with shower, sink and toilet in each. They were obviously cleaned every morning and were just as pleasant to use as having your own bathroom! For the money I paid I was very happy with this hostel. As a single female traveller it was important for me to feel safe in where I was staying and I definitely felt this here. It is in a nice area and it is easy to get to the subway station and just as easy to walk to areas. Being in a midtown area is a real advantage as you are able to get to uptown areas such as Times Square just as easily as you are able to get to down town areas like Ground Zero and the ferry to Ellis Island. I would really recommend staying here - I thought it was fantastic for the price!

Liked: it is a very charming old school hotel with great and very helpful staff. everything was clean and the room was good, too. Its for people who want to do stuff in the city and everything. the area is quiet, but its just a couple of blocks to the east village and union square is close. I definetly recommend it!

Disliked: you dont really meet other people

Liked: Nice interior design. Great location. Although bathrooms are shared, they are clean and spacious (and private in the sense that you lock them). Great value for a hotel in Manhattan.

Disliked: The room was quite small, though not uncomfortably so.

Liked: Loved everything. Cozy and quaint, it's like Old New York. Old-style elevator, small narrow rooms but comfortable and unique!

Liked: Excellent location within walking distance of Union Square with many shops/restaurants and subway stop. Half a block to small local park for a quiet break.

Disliked: Small room--not good if you're claustrophobic.
