Liked: It was convenient to mid town on a quieter side street.

Disliked: It was just a room. flat pillows. lever in the shower was broken. one shared bath per floor.

Liked: The property advertises itself as budget and in a great location, and it was exactly that. Just off 5th avenue, a few blocks from the Empire State Building the Latham was very centrally located. The room was perfectly adequate - don't get me wrong it was far from great, but given what we paid we weren't accepting anything wonderful. The room can best be described as basic but functional, although the air conditioning unit was too loud to have running whilst we were in the room.

Disliked: A few minor gripes - the bathroom was nicely decorated but was seldom cleaned. Another minor gripe, but this is perhaps me merely being pernickety, but there was no way to tell when the bathroom was in use other than by unlocking it and pushing on it only to be prevented from entering by the dead lock. It made using the bathroom quite an interesting experience when the lock is constantly being unlocked and the door being pushed on. Like other reviews have alluded to, there were a great number of single mothers with very young children, so there were a few instances of having to turn up (or even on) the TV to drown out the crying of young children. Other than that, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Liked: Nothing, except the location (for the less amount of money)

Disliked: No proper room doors, very old rooms without renovation, sticking smell, Looked like I was stayiing in some horrible jail...

Liked: Very pretty facade, quick check in and a nice spacious room - definately value for money for New York City!

Disliked: There was a really lovely guy who worked on the night shift however the day staff seemed a bit disinterested in fulfilling a quality customer service.

Liked: There was bed bugs in my bed and I am now covered in nasty red bumps so unfortunately I can not recommend anything good about this property.

Disliked: It was very unclean, bed bugs in the bed, carpet floor had not been hoovered, skirting boards were dirty in the room.

Liked: The location is good

Disliked: This place was full of cockroachs. I reported it to the staff and they did not care at all. It's a very old and dirty place. The ventilation is very bad. Rooms are very noisy. 1 Shared bathroom per corridor (to be shared with about 10 other rooms). 1 elevator for all the building (>100 rooms). you can wait long. the second elevator has been out of order for many year (and never repaired) Staff very unfriendly and not helpfull at all.

Liked: The hotel has a very nice location and a good atmosphere. Staff is very helpful and the room is very nice, though I was hoping for a better view.

Disliked: What I did not like so much is that the towels and bed sheets were not very clean. I would recommend other visitors to bring their own towels and bed sheets.

Disliked: it was too expensive.....not got value-price... room was small and old.....bathroom wos outside for the whole floor....no breakfast for this price

Liked: The location was just great, you can't find many hotels so well located for that price.

Disliked: Rooms were hot and we could't turn of the heater (a mecanic came to switch it of, although I don't think he succeeded according to the temperature in the room). The heater was a noisy as well and there was steam coming out of it, it kept us from sleeping one night. The karpet wasn't that clean. But still you can overcome this, because the location is making up for it and we hadn't come to NYC to stay in, so did'nt spend much time there.

Liked: Great location, close to many of the main attractions

Disliked: Rooms very tired and dated, needs a renovation. Rooms very hot and air conditioning does not work properly. Rooms look very unclean and some furniture broken. Lift regularly broke down Would not recommend staying at hostel

Liked: It was pretty central and there was a subway near by.

Disliked: The room was tiny and the steam radiator was rather noisy. It was pretty pricy but probably ok for a New York hotel.

Liked: Room was exactly as described - not much but wasnt planning on spending time in room. Very clean - housekeeping came daily & bathroom was very clean & much better than expected. Staff downstairs were very helpful. Great having bathroom in room.

Disliked: Wasnt a social hotel, but didnt book it for that - only wanted a place to sleep in a good location & it was great for that. Elevator was very slow though..

Liked: Location was very goodBathroom was better than expected

Disliked: Smaller than most 'small' New York hotel/hostel rooms. Seeing what our friends got in a hotel for not much more money a night - this place just isn't worth it! Noisy. Lifts were awful! Not worth waiting for - just chance the stairs. Seemed like a halfway house for young homeless mothers - a queue of people with toddlers waiting for the city council to pay for their rooms!

Disliked: The room was very, very small. Enough room for two sets of bunk beds and nothing else. The room was unbearably hot and uncomfotable.
