Liked: Room was excellent, very nice en-suite for the money. Very helpful staff, couldn't do enough. Excellent location. Wi-fi. Restaurant, free breakfast was very nice.

Disliked: Didn't dislike anything, but I guess some may not like the lack of a common space, kitchen area, therefore it didn't have the usual hostel 'community' atmosphere.

Liked: Brightly painted rooms.

Disliked: All room doors have an iron bar lock on the outside that can be easily used to trap the guests in their room. Windows are bared. Felt very much like a prison to me.

Liked: Property was relatively clean and straightforward, with an excellent restaurant on property. Towels, soap and toilet paper were provided in the room. I would NOT recommend getting a fan-only room during the rainy season, however. It was so hot in the room I suffered a bout of severe dehydration overnight and was ill all the next day.

Disliked: Location wasn't great, but taxi stand is across the street. Towels provided were dirty, bathroom a little dingy. Non-air con rooms are absolutely stifling.

Liked: The staff were very kind and the location is very good. It was good to spend my first night in Dar in Jambo Inn since it was easy to find on the street on my way back from the posta.

Disliked: The internet in the room did not work. If you are choosing Jambo Inn for wireless in the room-not recommended.

Disliked: Everything. Do not go there unless there is no availability at the Econo Lodge which is 100m further: the rooms there are twice bigger, much lighter, cleaner, and... much cheaper too! I spent one night there after coming back from Zanzibar as it was out of the question for me to go back to Jambo Inn. I wish I had chosen that hostel for my first days in Dar as well. I was told by fellow travellers who had stayed at the Jambo Inn that the Safari Inn which is next door is much better too.

Liked: I'm not sure if the owners are new but they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Very courteous which seemed almost "too nice" but in the end no problems and would recommend to anyone. There is a nice perk with the internet as well but you have to stay there for an extended time.

Disliked: No onsite laundry. There was also some renovation of rooms but that has to happen at some point. This was not a major drawback.

Liked: Jambo was the only place you could grab a beer and chat to people in the local area. The rooms are big and very clean.

Disliked: I didn't think it was great value for money. The Safari Inn have rooms with a/c at a lower price than a room with a fan at Jambo.

Liked: the staff were helpfull, the restaurant was next door, taxi's always outside, safe and secure and no thieving locals could get to you ha ha ha .

Disliked: rooms were very hot! the maps showing how to find the hostel were crap! luckily we were only 15 minutes walk away? what they dont say is that all buses out off Dar leave from Ubongo station, 12 kms away, dead early in the morning! check before buying!!!

Liked: Its fairly cheap

Disliked: The included breakfast is rather small and unappealing. Its not made clear on this site, but this is a hotel run to Muslim principles (on the edge of a mostly Muslim neighbourhood), and they therefore do not sell alcohol and do not allow it in the rooms. Hot water is available, but only between 6 and 8am (apparently, all though all my showers were cold) - at other times you have to go down to reception and request it.

Liked: The staff here are super friendly and give great maps and advice on check-in as well as offering to turn on hot water on request and giving advice about what to do with your day in Dar. Honestly when I walked into the room it looked like a rehabbed mental hospital- florescent lighting and dingy white and off-white walls with equally dingy curtains. I heard other guests entering their rooms for the first time having the same expressions of "yikes"... but it grows on you, and I think for Dar and my traveling in Tanzania in general it's not bad at all. The restaurant is also good and cheap, and internet was fairly priced and decently fast.
