Hotel Sirmium

Hotel Sirmium is located in the very centre of the town Sremska Mitrovica and is the most representative building of its kind in this part of Srem.

It was constructed on the remains of the storage part of the “Imperial Palace” of ancient Sirmium. One part of the palace was preserved in the lobby of the hotel itself, and the other one is located next to it. The unique and unrepeatable feeling of being near an ancient edifice and the simultaneous pleasure of enjoying oneself in the modernly equipped “Roman salon”, the “Red Hall”, the “White Hall”, or the comfortable suites and rooms, make a stay in this hotel really special.

Sirmium - the great ancient town of the Roman province Lower Pannonia was situated in the area of today's Sremska Mitrovica. It represents one of four metropolises where five Roman emperors were born and lived. The complexity of archaeological excavated objects of this town today represents a unique open-air museum. There is the emperor's palace, the ancient palace with thermal springs, Sirmium's corn-house, the monumental Roman bathroom, remainders of an ancient plumbing and the University of God Jupiter.
The city nucleus of Sremska Mitrovica today is decorated with some old objects which are many centuries old, among which a flat of a border guard's farmer and the military building from the XVIII century particularly stand out. There are also the Museum of Srem and the Museum of Church Art in town. Near the town, the swamp Zasavica is located and it, with its surroundings, represents a rare natural nook. Zasavica was declared a Special Natural Reservation of the first category. Rare species of flora and fauna, among which Umbra krameri, the sole representative of the family Umbridae in Europe stands out, can be found in unusual wild environment, close to the town. The swamp is rich in fish, especially in carp and pike. The ornitho fauna is represented by 120 bird species of which 80 are nest birds, so that an ideal possibility for photo-safari is given here.

Sremska Mitrovica is situated in the southern part of Srem, on the river Sava, in the border area of Central Serbia, more exactly of Macva. It is situated on the international motorway E-70. It is connected with the regional road Novi Sad - Sabac in the direction of North-South. The International railroad track that connects West Europe with South Europe and Orient also passes through Sremska Mitrovica. Sremska Mitrovica is located 79 km from Belgrade, and 50 km from Novi Sad.
