Liked: Bus stop right out front.

Disliked: The staff were unfriendly and extremely unhelpful and inflexible. Upon arrival we were told there was a 5% surcharge to pay using a debit card, the room was cold and not particularly clean, the milk at breakfast was sour and the staff made us feel unwelcome. I would certainly not recommend this, most hostels are nicer and have far friendlier staff.

Liked: It was cheap. But you get what you pay for at this place.

Disliked: It's a great place to stay if you want to take cold showers! No hot water in the morning or at night.

Liked: The place is nice even if it's needed to take a bus or taxi to go to the city centre. Our room was nicely clean and every day the hotel staff cleaned it up while changing our linen. The breakfast is very early (7-.8.30) and the beds very comfortable. Right in front of the wonderful Leith Links park!

Disliked: The atmosphere is generally cold, the place looks very old, and the bathrooms do strange noises time to time...

Liked: It was ok, the room was clean and nice.

Disliked: There was something wrong with the electricity, even with an adaptor I couldn't charge my phone nor my laptop. Tried a few.

Disliked: Pay attention to their 21 day cancellation policy. If something bad happens and you are forced to cancel your trip the last minute, they will charge you for all the nights and then simply resell your room for a cheaper price. Seems fair, but you will be told that they charged 100 percent because you informed the last minute and now they are not be able to resell.

Liked: Breakfast- Friendliness of the staff (always taking care of the clients)- Bed was very good. Very clean.

Disliked: Hard to manipulate the shower. Some noises.

Liked: the staff is very friendly (familiar atmosphere), there is a bus stop into the city directly outside the hotel

Disliked: the rooms are clairaudient : although it was rather quiet, the air conditioning of other bath-rooms (wich is turned on automatically with the light) woke me up 1 or 2 times in a night.

Liked: The Merith hotel describes itself as a budget hotel on it's sign before you enter and that is what you need to expect. It is a great place to just rest your head and get a good nights sleep, and then wake up a very yummy, yet early, breakfast (7-8.30am) before heading off into Edinburgh. The trip into Edinburgh takes a good 15 minutes on the bus through a rather unsightly town, as the hotel is actually in Leith. To give the hotel its dues, it is exactly what you pay for: a budget hotel perfect for sightseeing if you don't mind public transport. I'd stay there again :)

Liked: Buffet breakfast and helpfulness of the owner. Well served by bus (12 and 25, direction city center) and 35 (city center and airport). Free wi-fi.

Disliked: It's not an Hotel, but a guesthouse, so the standard is different. The walls are thin, you can hear everything coming from the other rooms. Bad and old windows so a lot of air comes into the room, and this is a problem during the winter time. Not enough blankets. Old bed, thin pillow. No wardrobe in room 9. Bed door.
