Hotel El Pantano is the only hotel in Jalapa offering hotel, restaurant, tours and Internet-services in one place, while our green area of 2.5 hectares makes you feel like being in real nature itself although we are just 8 blocks away from the city center. Children will love our playing ground.

Hotel El Pantano is built in a typical country-style design but with all the facilities and comfort of a modern hotel. We are located in a green private area of 2.5 hectares very close to the town center.

Accommodation Information

All rooms have private services (hot water shower, toilet), cable TV, laundry and room service, bedroom table, bed light, fan, cupboard, table, and chairs. All our rooms are equipped to accommodate 3 persons with a double bed and a single bed and we charge our rooms according to the number of persons in each room. Children up to the age of 8 years will be accommodated free of charge. All rooms have windows at two sides offering views to our green and reforested area while securing adequate and comfortable natural ventilation. All windows are provided with insect screens.

Restaurant:
Open from 07.00 AM until 10.00 PM (11.00 PM during weekends. We have a large indoor restaurant, 2 terraces and 3 small family size ranches. We serve a la carte, semi-carte, typical foods, snacks, beverages and liquors. Our breakfast can be typical Nicaraguan or European with alternatives such as pancakes and corn-flakes. Our coffee is produced organically on a farm property of the hotel and many of the fruits, lemons and milk are produced on the Hotel area itself. Children will love to see our animals such as cows, dogs and "pelibuey" (sort of sheep). Not to forget the dozens of chickens from our neighbors which pass over to feed in El Pantano!

Tours and Excursions:
Hotel El Pantano offers a wide range of interesting excursions in the area with the facility to hire private tourist guides and or transport. Our excursions include such areas as:
Jesús Mountain, the highest mountain in Jalapa with approximately 1,850 meters above sea level and where they produce the fourth-best gourmet coffee of the world.
Rivers and waterfalls
Hot water and medicinal springs
Tabaco growing, processing and production of cigars.
Local handicrafts made from pine leaves

Especially we would like to recommend to visit the traditional annual national MAIZE FESTIVAL which is celebrated each year during the third weekend of September. This year Jalapa celebrates its maize festival from 26 till 28 September 2008. Please book your rooms well in advance because the number of visitors always exceed the number of beds available in Jalapa!
Attractions include the election of Miss Maize (all candidates dressed up in clothes made of maize and its derivates), street parades with decorated wagons, bull rides and many other traditional activities.
