Liked: The hostel was overbooked, which was a bad thing. We didn´t get the room we had reservation for (private double), but an apartment with private bathroom and "kitchen" (=fridge and coffee maker) instead with the same price. The apartment was a bit dusty and wheather we'd happened to had noisy neighbours, we'd propably had heard them through the walls. Fortunately we had quiet neighbours and the stay in the apartment was pleasant and comfortable by all it's means and defenately value for money. The breakfast was simple but satisfactory. I have nothing to complain about but can't tell much about the real hostel rooms, though.

Disliked: violet paint in our room, hotel could be cleaner, also there was a repairs while our stay.

Liked: Nothing! Never ever stay here! The breakfast wasn't even good and the whole place looks like it is going to collapse! The toilets were run down, the rooms the ceilings were cracking. The other rooms were under renovation and the whole place was so dusty! That place doesn't feel safe at all with different types of people walking in and out. The shelves and tables in my room where on the verge of collapsing as well. Worst stay ever!

Liked: It was dirty and smelled awfully, which isn't a wonder since the whole third floor, where my room was situated, had a soaking wet carpet due to a leakage in the shower. Still the rooms - and the shower - was in full use!The male staff was unpleasant, stood around in groups, looked you up and down and clearly talked about you and laughed in their own language. A very creepy atmosphere overall. Wouldn't recommend any friend of mine to stay in that place.

Liked: The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Nice area right beside a canal. Good shower and breakfast. Stairs were interesting but to be expected in an old building. Great stay would go again!

Liked: The hotel was very well located, only 5 mins from the Centraal Station. The staff was very friendly and seemed eager to make sure that I had a nice and safe stay. The reviews about the rat/mice problem seems to be accurate since I was told not to leave open food in my room or they would come in the windows. However, I didn't see any; the cats they brought in to deal with the problem seem to be doing their job (and loved some affection from the guests). The room was very dirty however and the restrooms were not ideal. There were many stains on the walls and floor and cigarette burns in the curtains. Overall though, I think only part of the blame for those things can be placed on the staff. Many guests seemed to be pretty inconsiderate of the facilities and since the bathrooms are shared....it would be a full time job keeping them clean. Anyway, I do recommend Hotel Brian for all of its faults since it is exactly what I wanted, a cheap single room in the heart of the city.

Liked: Great location, though it was next to the Red Light district - this was not mentioned in the description and would have had an effect on my choosing it if I had known. I was there for one night, with my wife....it was interesting but not what we had come to Amsterdam for!If the room had been properly equiped with everything working and secure and much quieter, it would have been fine and I would stay there again, but NOT as it currently is.

Liked: Staff was very friendly and helpful! Although the room door was slightly spoilt but we figured out how to work around it. Breakfast was simple but good for the price. Location excellent!

Liked: Very small place, the stairs are very small to & I was in a room in a third floor without elevator.And, during my visit they were fixing the bathroom, so, I had to use a bath in other floor and the persons who were working in the bath were so noisy
